OUR STORY
The Endeavour Pub in Whitby, North Yorkshire, has a rich history tied to its location in a town famous for its maritime heritage and its connections to Captain James Cook. The pub is named after Cook's ship, the HMS Endeavour, which he used during his first voyage of discovery to Australia and New Zealand
The Endeavour Pub was established in the late 19th century, around 1897, as a traditional English public house. Like many pubs in Whitby, it served the local fishing community, as well as sailors and travelers passing through the busy port town.
Over the years, the Endeavour has become a beloved fixture in Whitby, known for its cozy atmosphere and its location near the harbor. It is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a place to enjoy a pint while soaking in the town's rich seafaring history. The pub’s interior often reflects this heritage, with nautical decor and memorabilia related to Captain Cook and the Endeavour.
In recent years, the Endeavour has maintained its reputation as a welcoming and characterful pub, often featuring live music and community events. It has become particularly popular during Whitby’s Steampunk and Goth Weekends, which draw visitors from all over the country. The pub has also embraced its historical connections, using its name and decor to celebrate Whitby’s maritime past.
Today, the Endeavour Pub remains an integral part of Whitby’s social scene, blending its historical roots with the needs of modern visitors.

Car ParkingThere is no car park on site however there are several public car parks located within a 10 minute walk, approx £11/24 hrs, although if you will be parking for more than 2 days you may wish to call at the Tourist Information ( in Endeavour Wharf Car Park - opposite the CO OP) where you can purchase a ticket for the duration of your stay rather than topping up daily at the machine, there is a small reduction in the price but your ticket is valid in all council, car parks from Staithes to Filey. All the local car parks also operate on the RINGO app which you may wish to download so that you can top up your parking remotely. The nearest car park is directly opposite the pub - this is a small carpark but there are often people using it for small periods of time so our tip is to hang around in the car park for a while as often someone will be leaving. There are further Carpark on the opposite side of the river as well as at Whitby Abbey. There is also some free on street parking if you can get a space further up the road, but please ensure you have gone past the 40 minute no return parking outside The Fleece pub. There is no permit parking near to us and we do not have permits for other areas. From 1st November - 1st March several car parks are free - often including The Abbey, Marina Drive, Pavillion at west Cliff - please check at the payment meter to ensure parking is free !
